Job Description:

1. To work closely with the Chief Executive, the Music Director and the Planning & Tours Manager in the future planning of the orchestral programme, and to support the Concerts Administrator in the short term planning and execution of the orchestral programme.

2. To be responsible for the booking of soloists, including negotiating with artists’ agents or directly with artists to obtain an appropriate fee in line with company requirements and budgetary targets, and to approve and sign artists’ contracts as required.

3. To be responsible for CBSO Special Projects, ranging from UK concert tours with non-classical artists to studio recordings of core classical repertoire. To create and maintain strong relationships with a range of external partners and to pursue potential special projects work, negotiating repertoire and fees as appropriate.

4. To work closely with the Chief Executive concerning the orchestra’s recording and broadcasting activities including liaising with the appropriate partners on repertoire; creating and overseeing the recording budget; negotiating fees and the relevant contracts thereof; managing the distribution of earnings according to the CBSO/MU contract.

5. To act as Duty Manager for CBSO concerts where required, both in Birmingham and elsewhere in the UK on a rota basis.

6. To ensure data relating to your activity is recorded appropriately within the OPAS systems for use when producing the schedules, contracts and for use by other departments.

7. To be responsible for checking appropriate invoice details and then authorising payments in line with prior agreed fees and/or costs. To work with the Chief Executive concerning the department’s budgets.

8. To deputise for the Planning & Tours Manager and Concerts Administrator during periods of absence and provide practical support during busy periods.

9. To provide support for other areas within the department at times of high activity and to assist with the achievement of deadlines.

This is a part time position (0.6) on a twelve month contract. Consideration may be given to making the position full time with additional responsibilities.
